FOR STUDENTS & TEACHERS

Yes on Proposition 1!

The Kent School District is asking voters to renew an expiring levy which was previously approved by the community.

This is not a new tax. The current levy expires December 2027, and this renewal will preserve funding that supports our schools and students.

The funding goes to student programs, textbooks, safety, bus services, sports, counselors, and more. Without it, our schools face deep cuts.

SUSTAINS FUNDING

Not a New Tax!

This levy replaces the previous voter-approved levy that is set to expire. The school board chose an amount of $1.95 per $1000 of assessed property value to offset rising costs.

If approved by voters, the levy would provide about $6-10 million more per year to fund increased costs such as utilities, supplies, and services.

It ensures our local classrooms remain stable without triggering sudden mid-year program cancellations. The levy helps bridge the funding gap: maintaining programs, services, staffing, and daily operations that are unfunded or not fully funded by the state.

Protecting Our Kids’ Futures

The levy pays for a wide variety of academic programs, student well-being, learning materials and supplies, bus maintenance, staffing, nutrition, and much more. Passing this levy is absolutely essential for keeping Kent School District kids on the right track.

  • Student Safety and Health

    The levy helps fund school security personnel and mental health counselors in Kent schools.

    These staff help keep schools safe and give students support when they need it.

  • Textbooks & Curriculum

    Students need up-to-date instructional materials and teachers need ongoing professional learning to deliver high-quality instruction.

    Levy funding helps support curriculum, textbooks, classroom materials, and professional development for educators.

  • Bus Transportation

    Getting students safely to and from school is an essential part of providing a public education, but state funding does not cover the full cost of school transportation.

    Levy funding helps bridge that gap and support reliable transportation for Kent students.

  • Sports, Athletics & Health

    School athletics give students opportunities to build teamwork, discipline, leadership, and healthy habits while connecting with their school community.

    Levy funding helps support athletic programs and the staff, equipment, and operations needed to keep these opportunities available to students.

  • Learning Assistance

    Instructional assistants provide valuable support to teachers and students in classrooms across the district.

    Levy funding helps put additional adults in classrooms to provide individualized attention and support student learning.

  • Arts & Music Programs

    Arts and music programs give students opportunities to create, perform, collaborate, and develop skills outside traditional academic subjects.

    Levy funding helps sustain access to these programs as part of a well-rounded education.

  • Student Programs

    The levy helps fund programs and services that support students academically, socially, and beyond the classroom.

    These investments help provide students with the opportunities and support they need to succeed in school and prepare for their futures.

  • Career Readiness

    Local levy funding helps Kent schools offer courses and electives beyond what state funding alone can provide.

    These opportunities give students more choices to explore their interests, develop new skills, and prepare for college and careers.

  • Special Education

    Levy funding helps support the staff, services, and resources needed to serve students with disabilities.

    These investments help ensure students receive the individualized support and educational opportunities they need to succeed.

EVERY 2-6 YEARS

Previous Levies

Typically, school districts propose levies to support schools for two to six years. After the allotted number of years, the levy expires.

Voters must then approve a renewal of funding. Generally, the levy you are voting on simply replaces one that is about to expire.

  • In November 2024, voters approved the expiring Capital Projects & Technology Levy for three years.

  • In November 2023, voters approved the expiring Educational Programs and Operations Levy for three years.

  • In February 2020, voters approved the expiring Educational Programs & Operations Levy for two years. 

  • In February 2018, voters approved the expiring Educational Programs & Operations Levy for two years and the Capital Projects & Technology levy for six years.
